There are many twists and turns throughout our lives. The Oratory was not expecting to move to Raritan, but here we are! For me, it is coming full circle, back to where I was born. My family moved to Bridgewater after a few years but we always came back to Raritan each week for Mass. Being half Slovak, St. Joseph Church was my home parish. Now I am happy to nurture my Italian half at St. Ann Classical Academy.
Coming here as Pastor in July 2018, I knew that St. Ann's Catholic elementary school would need to distinguish itself and offer a unique option for Catholic families to educate their children. We needed to provide an experience and opportunity that other elementary schools were not offering and to give parents a clear alternative. The classical liberal education model was in use for centuries. Its benefits are being rediscovered more and more in our time. I am happy to be part of the transition effort to make St. Ann Classical Academy the first classical Catholic school in the Diocese of Metuchen.
I am convinced that the Catholic classical model is the way to revive Catholic education in general. I feel like we, at St. Ann Classic Academy, are on the cutting edge of a positive movement into the future. For most parents, it is new and unfamiliar. I encourage you to learn more about it — the way your developing child will learn how to think and to pray, the excitement of discovery in your child’s learning experience, the integration of Christ, and how all subjects are connected. We are a Catholic school of faith — Christ our Redeemer and the loving creative plan of our God is recognized as central to understanding our humanity and all academic subjects. We believe that the promotion of objective truth, goodness, and beauty ought to be elements in the learning process of children. We want to help them to see that their lives have meaning and purpose, that character development and growth in virtue will enrich their lives, and that there is a destiny in communion with God to hope for and that calls out to them.
Together, let us place our trust in God and petition the Holy Spirit to bless this mission of St. Ann Classical Academy. We have good reason to hope for a vibrant future for St. Ann’s. Prayer is important to sustain this mission, but so is sacrifice, generous support, and the charitable and collaborative effort among faculty, parents, and administration.
