The quadrivium (arithmetic, music, geometry, astronomy) and the trivium (grammar, logic, rhetoric) make up the seven classical liberal arts of antiquity. This is the education that the great minds of the past such as Plato, Aristotle, and Saint Thomas Aquinas would have received. However, if you were to do a Google search on classical education, you would see much fanfare regarding the trivium, but little on the quadrivium. So much so in fact, that one could easily mistake that classical education is nothing more than reading great books and learning Latin. However, the quadrivium is not merely an afterthought tacked on to the trivium, but a vital component of the classically educated mind...
Last week our kindergarten students presented their Ancient Egyptian Pyramid projects. The past few months, the students have been learning about the world of pharaohs and pyramids. They've crafted, read, and written their way through ancient Egyptian history! The students had so much fun sharing their projects.
In Nature Studies, our 8th grade class dove into the cosmos by creating a scale model of the Earth and Moon! This hands-on experience allowed students to better understand their relationship in size and distance. The experience was eye-opening. Science is truly amazing!

Despite the inclement weather on Tuesday, the festive spirit of Mardi Gras shone brightly at St. Ann Classical Academy! Today, our students embraced the tradition with beautifully decorated masks, adorned in the iconic hues of green, gold, and purple. These colors not only call to mind the excitement of Mardi Gras but also hold deep significance in our liturgical seasons. Our lower school students paraded through the halls in a dazzling display, while their upper school counterparts warmly welcomed them, dressed impeccably for the occasion.
Our 8th graders showcased their spelling skills in an exciting bee, hosted and judged by members of the Knights of Columbus Sgt. John Basilone Council. The entire upper school joined in for a memorable, fun, and educational experience! Following the bee, our 8th graders had the pleasure of engaging with our esteemed guests, deepening their sense of community. Our Friday night was filled with pure holiday delight! From the sweet sounds of our instrumental music program to the angelic voices of the choir and the heartwarming play which told the stories of St. Nicholas and the First Christmas, our students from 1st to 8th grade shone brightly on stage, spreading Christmas cheer in every note and scene. Thank you to everyone who made this evening of talent and festive spirit possible!
